Happy Mothers Day from the Mother Garden!
Join Us for a West County Mothers Day Tradition! Bring your Mom to the Occidental Arts & Ecology Center Nursery this Sunday, take a tour of the Mother Garden at 1pm, and leave plenty of time for leisurely plant shopping at our 100% Certified Organic Plant Nursery.
Sometime in the late 80’s, the gardeners here at OAEC affectionately started referring to the “Mother Garden” because of her abundant fertility and the fact that she was providing a wealth of seeds, plant material and wisdom to other gardens and gardeners – quite literally, giving birth to daughter gardens. The OAEC Nursery is a continuation of that legacy as we send our little babies out into the world – unlike most nurseries, the vast majority of the plants that we sell in the nursery are propagated from open-pollinated seeds saved or cuttings taken directly from plants grown on-site. Our non-profit nursery is dedicated to preserving and promoting unique varieties of perennial food crops, culinary & medicinal herbs, drought-tolerant/pollinator friendly ornamentals and other multi-function plants suitable for permaculture design and that are well-adapted to our bioregion. All proceeds benefit OAEC’s Mother Garden Biodiversity Program.
We’re open April-October, Saturdays & Sundays 10am-5pm.
Can’t make the special Mothers Day tour? We offer free tours of the garden every 1st & 3rd Sunday of the month at 1pm.
